How Drinking 10 Glasses Of Water A Day Boosted My Productivity

I’ve always read articles about the benefits of drinking enough fluids a day but never took them seriously. I never believed the hype about drinking water. I’m a person that loves to challenge myself to try out new stuff so that I can have an opinion for myself based on my experience. So the best way to test the hype about drinking enough fluids is trying it out myself.

Believe the hype or not

So I decided to start drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. I did this for 30 days straight and I tested out some of the benefits of drinking water, to see whether I should believe the hype or not. Based on my own experience I’m going to give my verdict whether to believe the hype or not on four benefits of drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water.

For 30 days I drank 10 glasses of water (250 ml each).

First one: Promotes Weight Loss

One of my guilty pleasures was to drink sugary fluids like soda and juice, so the first days was hard for me. I took baby steps, started drinking 6 to 8 glasses a day and cutting off the sugary fluids progressively. At around day 20 I started to notice that my jeans weren’t so tight anymore and on the scale, I could see that I began to lose weight the decrease of weight was minor, but I could see progress. Bear in mind that this was the only change I brought into my life. 

Verdict: Believe the hype of this benefit.

Next up: Increases Energy & Relieves Fatigue

The energy I got from drinking water was constant and different from getting a short energy burst from drinking a sugary beverage. The sugary beverage would give me a short boost than I would crash, but when I compare it when I was drinking water constantly, my energy was constant and I didn’t need a boost during the day.

Verdict: Definitely believe the hype

Next up: Natural Headache Remedy

Headaches and migraines are commonly caused by dehydration. Normally I don’t suffer from headaches and migraines, but I do get them from time to time. During the 30 days, I didn't get a headache or a migraine. Maybe if my test period was longer I could give a more convincing verdict, but here it goes. 

Verdict: Believe the hype

The most important one for me: Saves Money

I’m going directly to the verdict because I started saving at least 5 Guilders ($2.75) a day from not buying a soda bottle. On a yearly basis, this would amount to a total savings of at least 1,750 guilders. 

Verdict: Definitely believe the hype of this benefit.

Final Verdict:

Believe the hype of staying hydrated, I’ve lost some weight, I feel more energetic, I can focus more, less distraction from headaches and I definitely saved some money during this period.

During those 30 days my body felt great, I was in a good mood and I could focus more. As a result of all those affects my productivity got a tremendous boost, by being in a good mood I was happy and active at work and at home, my body felt great so I had the stamina to do work without getting tired. I will say it again, BELIEVE THE HYPE of staying hydrated.

BUT WAIT!!

I couldn’t let you leave before sharing a few tips to keep you hydrated at work and at home. Here they are:

  1. Buy a reusable bottle, have it at all times with you and of course filled with water, don't carry an empty bottle around.
  2. Put a water bottle on your desk, next to your bed and in your car.
  3. Put a reminder every hour to drink a glass of water
  4. Find a water drinking buddy in office and at home, to keep each other in check
  5. Tea can be a replacement if you don’t want to drink only water. (Tea without the sugar)

By following these tips to staying hydrated I’m sure it will be beneficial for you the same way it benefited me and boosted not only my health and mood but also my productivity.
